The Prime Minister’s thinking behind giving priority to the US is that it does not bring much benefit to the progress of India. India’s main goals are economic development, technological progress, increase in military power and political balance at the ground level. America has an important role in fulfilling all these. America is India’s biggest trading partner today.
The annual trade of goods and services between the two countries is about 200 billion dollars. Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal has estimated that this trade could triple by 2030. India also has the satisfaction of having a trade surplus with the US compared to other trading partners. About 50 percent of India’s national income comes from trade and therefore there is a direct relationship between India’s economic progress and America. Trade with America and foreign investment will be decisive for making India a huge economy in the next decades.
Although on the front of foreign investment in India, Singapore and Mauritius are given the first and second place, but actually the USA, which is in the third place, brings enough foreign capital to our country. American investment has not only benefited services in India, but also played an important role in industrialization. American investors are active in India in various manufacturing sectors like motor vehicles, chemicals, electronics, food processing, clean energy, space technology and defense.
Millions of Indians are getting employment from them. Prime Minister Modi, who has said about himself that ‘being a Gujarati, business is in my blood’, knows very well that it is in the interest of the nation to attract capitalists living in rich countries like America and bring them to India.
In each of his American visits, he meets the giants of the business world there and inspires them to invest in India. Countries that specialize in cutting-edge trades such as artificial intelligence (AI), quantum computing, semiconductors and biotechnology (biotech) will be at the top of the global power equation.
America is also at the top in terms of such emerging technology. In view of this, the Government of India has emphasized on the co-development and co-production of many technologies with the US under the Important and Emerging Technology Initiative (ISET). Such technology has dual uses and also leads to military modernization. It is noteworthy that the activity of co-production of technologies is being conducted under the leadership of the National Security Advisers of both the parties.
It should not be overlooked that the US has stopped providing sensitive technology to its arch-rival China, while it is willing to share such technology with India. The reason for this dual strategy is America’s concern that China will overtake them in economic and military power and destroy the Western liberal international order.
As India is a democracy and relatively less than China in power, America’s elite and common people do not feel threatened. Therefore, America has been helpful in removing obstacles like international export control regulations and regulations on India. The bitterness in the US-China relationship has given a new dimension to the US-India strategic partnership.
America intends to stop China by making India and other friendly countries rich and strong under the offshore balancing strategy. Analysts who are enthusiastic about the left wing and neutrality have warned about this that India should not become a pawn in the game created by America and take the price of rivalry with China, but the Modi government has not paid attention to this view. , because China continues to show an aggressive stance day by day. He poses a direct threat to our national security.
In the current situation, for India, there is no question of remaining neutral between China, which is trying to dominate Asia, and America, which is strengthening its capabilities. There should be no hesitation that China’s strategic competitor is India, while America is India’s strategic partner. The foreign policy of the Indian government has turned milk into water in the case of China and America, but clarity has not been made in India on this subject.
Here, many commentators and citizens examine America from the perspective of domestic politics. Some US government institutions condemn India’s domestic affairs. Similarly, the media and intellectuals there continue to spread bad propaganda against the Modi government and the Sangh Parivar. Because of this, many Indians blame America for unjustified interference and wrongdoing. According to some analysts, the US is also trying to change power in India through secret campaigns.
It seems that such critics do not have as much faith in India’s democratic capacity as they should. Due to this, people do not even have an understanding of global geopolitics. His sensitivity is beyond international politics. It is easy to get emotional and declare America as India’s enemy and call it a trickster, but America’s friendship is essential for India’s progress in the world-class situation.
It must be admitted that regarding the affairs of neighbors like Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Myanmar, coordination between India and America has not been as expected. However, on the whole, America’s friendship has worked for us and will continue to do so. We have to maintain this friendship and take it forward by keeping national interests at the top in foreign policy.
