Many Sikh thinkers and organizations were advocating that Sukhbir Singh Badal should be made to pay a political price by imposing some kind of ban, and this was the biggest concern of Sukhbir Singh Badal’s camp, which had also made the work of the Singh Sahibs difficult. Sukhbir Singh Badal’s group and IT wing were constantly attacking the Jathedars on social media that Sukhbir Singh Badal should not be politically punished. For Sukhbir Singh Badal, the only positive thing was that he did not get political punishment, but he had to pay a heavy price for it that he had to confess his sins to the Akal Takht Sahib. Another consolation for his camp could be that the Akal Takht Sahib had taken collective punishment in addition to withdrawing the title of Fakhre Qaum given to Sukhbir’s father, Parkash Singh Badal, from the Akal Takht Sahib. Sukhbir Singh Badal was put on a par with some other leaders of the party.
Although this decision saved Sukhbir Singh Badal from being the sole culprit, which Sukhbir Singh Badal’s camp wanted, the interesting and historical aspect of the proceedings from Akal Takht Sahib was that Sukhbir Singh Badal was asked to accept “yes or no” for the crimes committed during the Badal regime. This decision of Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar Raghbir Singh may remain etched in the memory of the Sikh community that he did not allow Sukhbir Singh Badal to resort to vague answers to questions about his crimes.
