The caste violence between the ‘Maitei’ and ‘Kuki’ communities continues even after 560 days against the recommendation of the Manipur High Court to grant Scheduled Caste status to the ‘Maitei’ community in its May 3, 2023 judgment. As a result of this, at least 237 people have died and 2000 people have been injured. Meanwhile, inhuman incidents like ‘naked parade’, ‘gang rape’, burning alive and slitting the throat of women are happening continuously.
Signing of peace agreement between the ‘Kuki’ and ‘Maitei’ factions on August 1, 2024 and then during the meeting of ‘Maitei’ and ‘Kuki’ MLAs in Delhi on October 15, 2024 to assure that there will be no future violent incidents. Despite this, this process continues. In view of this, on October 17, 2024, 19 BJP MLAs in Manipur have written to Prime Minister Modi and demanded the removal of Chief Minister Biren Singh.
