Jathedar Singh Sahib Giani Raghbir Singh of Sri Akal Takht Sahib has termed the incident of thrashing of a Sikh businessman by a communal group and desecration of his turban and hair in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, as an attack on the rights and freedoms of different religions in the country.
In a written statement issued by the Sri Akal Takht Sahib Secretariat, Singh Sahib Giani Raghbir Singh said that it is the fundamental duty of every democratic government to uphold the human rights and freedoms of people of different religions and communities. He said that the attack on the turban and hair of a Sikh businessman by an angry mob over a minor dispute in Rishikesh is extremely shameful for the democracy of this country. Singh Sahib Giani Raghbir Singh said that although the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has written a letter to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Uttarakhand Police regarding this incident, demanding strict action against the culprits, but it is also the duty of the Punjab government to approach the Uttarakhand government and ensure strict legal action against the culprits so that the security and freedom of minorities in the country can be maintained.
