In an important verdict, the Moga Juvenile Special Court and Additional Sessions Judge Harjit Singh today acquitted British Sikh citizen Jagtar Singh Jaggi Johal in a case registered in Baghapurana police station.
It is noteworthy that on November 4, 2020, Jagtar Singh Jaggi Johal was first arrested in this case and then his name was included in many other cases.
Jagtar Singh Jaggi Johal has been in custody for the past seven years and is currently under house arrest in Delhi’s Tihar Jail.
After the court’s verdict, Jagtar Singh Jaggi Johal’s lawyer Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur shared information with Adara Sikh Siyasat and said that this case was registered by the Punjab Police under FIR No. (FIR) 193 on December 17, 2024 in Baghapurana police station against Jammu resident Tarlok Singh Ladi.
Later, his brother Tarlok Singh Ladi Taljit Singh Jimmy was arrested in this case.
On November 4, 2020, the Punjab Police picked up British citizen Jagtar Singh Jaggi Johal from Rama Mandi and arrested him in this case. Jagtar Singh Jaggi Johal, a resident of Scotland, had come to Punjab to get married.
He said that 8 years after the case was registered and 7 years after Jaggi Johal’s arrest, the court has acquitted a total of 4 people in today’s decision, including Jagtar Singh Jaggi Johal, Dharminder Singh Gugni, Anil Kumar Kala and Tarlok Singh Ladi. The court has sentenced three people – Ramandeep Singh Bagga, Hardeep Singh Shera and Taljit Singh Jimmy to 2 years each under the Arms Act.
He said that the police had also nominated Bhai Harminder Singh Mintu in this case, but he died in jail during the trial. Lawyer Jaspal Singh Manjhpur said that Jagtar Singh Jaggi has been acquitted by the court on all charges. He said that Jagtar Singh Jaggi Johal was nominated in other cases on the basis of the charges filed in this case.
S. Jaspal Singh Manjhpur said that although the acquittal in this case cannot lead to the release of Jagtar Singh Jaggi Johal as other cases are pending against him, but with this decision, the chances of Jagtar Singh Jaggi getting bail or being acquitted in the remaining cases have increased from a legal point of view.
