A state-of-the-art 8-bed upgraded Intensive Care Unit (ICU) was inaugurated at Civil Hospital, Ludhiana on Wednesday. The facility was formally inaugurated by Punjab Cabinet Ministers Dr. Balbir Singh, Hardeep Singh Mundian, MP Sanjeev Arora and MLA Ashok Parashar Pappi. The ICU comprises 4 ICU beds with ventilator support and 4 HDU (High Dependency Unit) beds equipped with High Flow Nasal Oxygen (HFNO) and BiPAP facilities.
Speaking at the event, Punjab Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh said, “Our government is committed to strengthening healthcare at the grassroots level. This ICU will act as a lifeline for critically ill patients in Ludhiana and nearby areas.”
Responding to media queries, Dr. Balbir Singh assured that the hospital is adequately staffed, with 16 new appointments made recently, most of them mainly nursing staff. He stressed that the hospital has been upgraded and renovated due to the joint efforts of the state government, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and MP Sanjeev Arora. He praised MP Arora for his excellent contribution in modernising the hospital by using MPLAD and CSR funds. While most of the renovation work has been completed, the ICU unit was one of the pending works. “MP Arora was working tirelessly to complete the ICU unit, and I am happy to inform you that it is now fully functional,” he said.
MP Sanjeev Arora said, “Today marks a significant step in our commitment to public health. The inauguration of this state-of-the-art ICU unit at Ludhiana Civil Hospital is not just an addition to the infrastructure, but a promise to save lives, provide timely critical care and ensure that no citizen is left behind in times of medical emergency. I congratulate the entire medical team and the hospital administration for their dedication and assure them of our continued support to strengthen our healthcare system.” MP Arora said that Civil Hospital, Ludhiana always sees a huge rush of patients from Ludhiana and its surrounding areas. On an average, the OPD sees around 2,000 patients daily. He said, “This is a proud moment for Ludhiana. Ludhiana Civil Surgeon Dr. Ramandeep Kaur said, “DH Ludhiana already has 31 ventilators available and now with this modern ICU and HDU setup, we are better equipped to handle emergencies and provide specialized care.”
Punjab Cabinet Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian said, “This is not just a facility – it symbolizes our government’s resolve to provide high-quality healthcare to every citizen. Developments like this prove that government hospitals can provide world-class services when given the right resources.”
