The farmers have written a letter to the acting Jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj regarding the violation of the norms of continuous chanting of Sri Japji Sahib by the police during the Kisan Morcha.
In the letter written by Kisan Union Shere Punjab and Bhartiya Kisan Ekta, they wrote that the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, the highest court of Sikhism, has requested that continuous chanting of Sri Japji Sahib was going on for the last four months during the ongoing farmers’ struggle at Khanauri border, which was being done from a large-sized Japji Sahib Di Pothi Sahib, which was consumed after about 48 hours and then the chanting was started again. This Jaap was being performed in a decorated Palki Sahib under a trolley under a solid shed as per Gurmat Maryada. On the day the police attacked the Morcha and started arresting the farmers, on Wednesday, March 19 at around 8:30 pm, Bibi Daljit Kaur, village Moth, district Hisar (Haryana), was reciting from the Pothi Sahib. She was forcibly taken away from her place. The complete Bhog of the Akhand Jaap of Japji Sahib was to be performed on Thursday, March 20 at 10 am, but the Gurbani was stopped halfway and the Sangat was not allowed to perform Bhog. The police, who were authorized by the Punjab government, violated the ethics of the Akhand Jaap of Japji Sahib. This action of the police administration has caused great pain to the hearts of the Sangat. So we request you to summon the officers present on that occasion and against whom all this was done to Shri Akal Takht Sahib. Since those officers were in Sikh guise and were well aware of the etiquette, they have deliberately violated the etiquette, they have no remorse for their mistake. Please summon them immediately and pay them according to Sikh principles and also take legal action against them so that no one makes such a mistake in future. It would be your utmost kindness.
