Ludhiana, May 5 (000) Under the ‘War on Drugs’ campaign launched by the Punjab government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to make the state drug-free, action against drug smugglers has started on a war footing. Under this action, on Monday, the house of drug smuggler Lakhan son of Hira, Hari Krishna Colony, Transport Nagar, Ludhiana was demolished under the leadership of Ludhiana Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma. This house was built by illegally occupying the land of the Municipal Corporation.
On this occasion, Assistant Town Planner Zone-B Kuljit Singh Mangat and Building Inspector Harminder Singh Makkar from Municipal Corporation Ludhiana said that this land of the Municipal Corporation falls under the development scheme of Transport Nagar. Under the scheme, this land was left for parking of vehicles where drug smuggler Lakhan son of Hira had illegally occupied and constructed a house which was demolished today with the help of Ludhiana Police.
Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma said that the Punjab government is adopting a zero tolerance policy against drugs and strict action is being taken against drug traffickers. He said that 5 separate cases have been registered against Lakhan son of Hira, Hari Krishna Colony, Transport Nagar, Ludhiana under IPC, NDPS Act. He said that Lakhan son of Hira was sentenced to 10 years due to which he is in jail.
Giving a stern warning to the drug peddlers, he said that they should give up the business of selling drugs, otherwise similar action will be taken against them.
Swapan Sharma said that drug peddlers have misled the youth of the state and the government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is fully determined to save the youth of Punjab. He appealed to the people to contact their nearest police station to complain about drug peddlers. He said that the war against drugs launched under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann will continue continuously and the smugglers involved in the drug trade will not be spared under any circumstances. He said that now there is no place for drug smugglers in Punjab.
It is worth mentioning here that the campaign launched by the Punjab government against drugs was highly appreciated by the residents of the area and the Punjab government, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and the police administration were thanked.
On this occasion, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Investigation) Harpal Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Zone-4 Ludhiana Mandeep Singh, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Industry Area-A Ludhiana Jasbinder Singh, Chief Officer of Police Station Moti Nagar Ludhiana Amritpal Singh, Chief Officer of Police Station Jamalpur Ludhiana Inspector and Chief Officer of Police Station Tibba Ludhiana Jaspal Singh were also present.
