More painful than this is the story of the shaky future of those people living in Canada and America, who are facing the blows of the laws of those countries, who had gone to those countries with the hope of a better future as students or to work and are now facing the blows of changing laws. Their concern is about deportation from there.
In fact, the pain of migration is so deep for a person that it is difficult for him to bear. Migration from a village to a city, migration from one corner of a city to another state, where there is a difference in language and culture, and then the pain of migration from a country to a state, a person has to bear it with a heavy heart.
A type of such migration pain was seen in the country in the past years when the Corona disaster made crores of people homeless in countries and abroad. People who went to earn a living in cities returned to the villages. The conditions of these migrants have become worse and worse, which have not improved even after years.
These situations of massive displacement create conditions of hunger, when a person becomes helpless to uproot his roots. He is forced to leave his settled home, family, and surroundings.
Today, the number of people facing forced displacement has exceeded eighty-four million worldwide. Of these, forty-eight million are victims of displacement within their own countries. But in fact, the number of migrants at the international level has reached twenty-seven million. Of these, ninety-five million are living in low- and middle-income countries. They are struggling with displacement and hunger. Climate disasters, earthquakes, violent clashes, wars, inflation-unemployment, political situations, droughts and floods have displaced more than 110 million people in the world, 40 percent of whom are children. They have been deprived of nationality, education, health, employment, transportation, freedom and basic rights. A report published in 2024 on such conditions shows that 2024 has been extremely challenging from the perspective of displacement and migration.
The situation of displacement in Syria is serious. The war in Ukraine has displaced 13 million people. People from Poland, Romania, Hungary and Belarus have become refugees in neighboring countries. 19 million people in Afghanistan are in famine-like conditions. In Venezuela, 23 million people are in a serious state of famine. Children are suffering from malnutrition. The situation in South Sudan is extremely serious. Seventeen million people displaced from Myanmar are known as the most persecuted minorities in the world after losing their citizenship. The conditions of children in these countries are extremely pitiful. Children under the age of five are suffering from stunting due to malnutrition. The world currently has the largest population of refugees, of whom more than twenty-five million are displaced from their homes and living abroad. Of these, one crore ten lakh are children. This number has doubled in the last ten years.
In the last year 2024, about fifteen crore people remained hungry amid the empty cries of technological development around the world. After Covid, this number has increased by fifteen crore so far. According to a study, 770 million people may face hunger by 2030.
The causes of displacement and migration in India vary across regions. They include drought, floods, food shortages, and violence and conflict. A report by Down to Earth State of India’s Environment claims that nearly 85 lakh people were displaced due to conflict and violence. Seven lakh people had to leave their homes in Assam, Mizoram, Kashmir, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura by the end of 2022.
Many development projects are also causing displacement. A report by the Centre for Science and Environment states that large-scale displacement is taking place in India due to floods, droughts and cyclones. Apart from the hilly and coastal areas of the country, similar situations are also seen continuously in Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand.
Undoubtedly, man has to face major disasters. There are some natural disasters, the cause of which is major tampering with the environment, the common man has to bear the brunt of which. Even among the common people, the less powerful, the weaker people, especially women and children, are more victims of disasters and the consequences of wars.
Economic and social inequality in society, exploitation of resources, are such reasons, which create more problems for the resourceless people. People from the lower class, low income groups have to bear the pain of migration more. Being homeless, being a victim of hunger, being under the scourge of unemployment, these are the results of the power and wealth grabbing of corporate houses in the present time. Those who play with nature, start new projects and exploit resources to fill their pockets, in collusion with the rulers, exploit the people, exploit them. This phenomenon is continuously increasing in the country and the region.
Since ancient times, man has been migrating, roaming in the forests, moving away from his birthplace in search of safe places and a good and comfortable life. This struggle of his life continues continuously. His longing is connected with gaining global citizenship in the universe. His thinking is tied to getting rid of hunger and living a good and dignified life. The rules of the governments of countries and foreign countries seem to him as an obstacle in his open thinking. He sometimes breaks the legal chains by taking great risks and sometimes gets himself tied in these chains.
However, for man, both displacement and migrationThese are extremely dangerous and painful conditions. To get rid of them, man will have to create new horizons with innovative thinking so that his hopes of living a better human life can be fulfilled.
