There is a dire need for the SGPC to explain the reasons behind the sudden dismissal of all three Singh Sahib Jathedars of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib and Takht Sri Damdama Sahib. Rajya Sabha member and International President of Vishwa Punjabi Sanstha Vikramjit Singh Sahni said that the SGPC should provide evidence of the legitimacy of its action as the Sikh community in India and across the world is demanding an answer to its legitimacy. Mr. Sahni further said that Sri Akal Takht Sahib, being the supreme power of Sikhism, should lead the nation by establishing a transparent and rigorous process for the selection and dismissal of Jathedars. He said that the SGPC, the “mini parliament of Sikhs”, should consult with Sikh organizations, Singh Sabhas, Sikh saints and Gurdwaras around the world to maintain the dignity and integrity of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and all Takhts, just like the sacred process of the Vatican. It is the need of the hour to follow strict protocols regarding the appointment and removal of Jathedars, and Sri Akal Takht Sahib, as the guardian, should ensure the respect and sanctity of these positions are maintained.
