Those moments were historic for me when I had the opportunity to visit the site of Caxton Hall in London, where Shaheed Udham Singh had revised O’Dwyer on 13 March 1940. Although no memorial of Shaheed Udham Singh could be established at that place, I have conveyed the emotions that I had after going there through this video. Sardar Udham Singh has become such a great warrior in history, who adopted the path of armed struggle to break the chains of slavery and against the mass murder of innocent people. Born on 26 December 1899 in a poor family of Sunam Nagar, Punjab, Udham Singh (earlier name Sher Singh) came to the Central Sikh Orphanage, Amritsar Sahib on 24 October 1907 after the death of his mother and father in his childhood and grew up inspired by Sikh life, service and martyrdom.
To avenge the bloodshed of humanity during the bloody massacre of Jallianwala Bagh, Udham Singh reached Caxton Hall in London after 21 years on 13 March 1940 and corrected the tyrant O’Dwyer. The irony was that on one hand the Raja and the Majithias of Patiala were giving feasts to Dyer-O’Dwyer etc., on the other hand Shaheed Udham Singh was ready to correct O’Dwyer by risking his life. Udham Singh alias Mohammad Singh Azad attained martyrdom by kissing the noose in London on 31 July 1940. Shaheed Udham Singh was first influenced by Gurbani, then he was influenced by the Ghadar movement and later by the Babbar Akali movement. Shaheed Bhagat Singh had a deep influence on his personality.
Shaheed Udham Singh began his letters with an onkar and also included verses from the hymns of Guru Arjan Sahib. From jail, he also wrote a letter to the administrators of Gurdwara Sahib asking them to send him Gutka Sahib. Shaheed Udham Singh often served langar at Gurdwara Sahib in London. He also had a deep love for Granthi Singh of Gurdwara Sahib in Stockton and letters written to him are also available. Due to his passion for acting, he also worked in two films in England, Elephant and Thief of Baghdad, etc., the pictures of which are available. Among the many names of Shaheed Udham Singh, one of them was “Mohammad Singh Azad”, but the name has been popularized by organizations like Arya Samaj under the so-called secular agenda of Hindutva and many others, “Ram Mohammad Singh Azad”. First Arya Samajist and so-called secular, now according to the fascist and RSS agenda, “Ram Mohammad Singh Azad” is being propagated, which is wrong. When Shaheed Udham Singh himself has written his name as Mohammad Singh Azad, then what right do we have to tarnish his name? We are dedicating this ‘poetic stanza’ to the great warrior Shaheed Udham Singh vs. Mohammad Singh Azad, which bears witness to the demolition of the world’s biggest colonial fortress by this great warrior:
