Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat, Industries and Commerce, Capital Investment Promotion, Labour and Tourism and Cultural Affairs Tarunpreet Singh Saund, in the next phase of the decisive fight against drugs under the “War on Drugs” campaign launched by the Punjab government to make the state drug-free, on Friday, under the Nasha Mukti Yatra, he reached the joint places of villages Kamran, Faizgarh and Rajewal of Khanna constituency and started a series of awareness meetings/programs with the village level and ward level defense committees.
Cabinet Minister Mr. Tarunpreet Singh Saund said that the main objective of these meetings/programs is to make the members of the village defense committees and ward defense committees aware of the activities of drug smugglers to the police and district administration, motivate them to bring drug victims to the drug de-addiction centers for treatment.
Saund said that under this Nasha Mukti Yatra, we have to go to every village of Punjab and make people aware against drugs. He said that if we and you want to make Punjab drug free, then you all will have to stand united with the Punjab government and support the government from every aspect to eradicate drug abuse. He said that I salute the spirit of the villagers, the Panchayat and the children, as you all have joined here in large numbers. He said that we will make Punjab a new, healthy, beautiful and colorful Punjab by removing it from the scourge of drug abuse.
The Cabinet Minister said that the youth of Punjab was misled by the alliance between the previous governments and drug traffickers and our government is cleaning up the filth of the previous governments. He said that now there is no political pressure on the police, but action is being taken against drug dealers and they are being put in jail. He said that the Chief Minister of Punjab, Mr. Bhagwant Singh Mann, has given a clear message to the drug traffickers that either they should stop selling drugs or leave Punjab. He said that the defense committees formed at the village and ward levels will play a leading role in eradicating drugs.
He highlighted the role of every individual in the fight against drugs and the importance of this campaign. He emphasized that it is our common responsibility to eradicate the problem of drugs from the root. This war against drugs can be won only by working together between the district administration, police administration and the public. The establishment of a drug-free Punjab is no longer a dream but is becoming a reality. Only with the participation of every person in the society can we establish a drug-free Punjab in the future.
He said that the state government has issued a WhatsApp helpline number 97791-00200 to seek the cooperation of the people in this war. He asked the people to provide any information about drug smugglers running illegal activities in their area on this WhatsApp number. He said that the identity of the person calling will be kept confidential.
During these events, Cabinet Minister Saund, along with the Panch, Sarpanch, Defense Committees of Village Karma, Faizgarh and Rajewal, assured the villagers who had arrived in large numbers to become the watchmen of their villages and wards and eradicate the scourge of drugs. A large number of people who had arrived in these events stood shoulder to shoulder with the Punjab Government and raised their voices against drugs.
On this occasion, the Coordinator of the Khanna constituency against drugs, Parampreet Singh, members of the village defense committees, Panch, Sarpanch, dignitaries of the area, leaders and members of social and religious organizations enthusiastically participated. He said that it becomes our duty that we also support the “War on Drugs” campaign started by the Punjab Government and the administration. He said that this campaign is now being effectively started by the Punjab Government at the ground level.
On this occasion, Coordinator of the Drug Detoxification Morcha Punjab from Khanna constituency, Parampreet Singh, Chairman Market Committee Khanna Jagtar Singh Gill Ratanheri, Block President Rural of Aam Aadmi Party Mr. Avtar Singh, high officials of the Police Department, Panchayat Department, Health Department and other departments and members of the village defense committees, Panch, Sarpanch and a large number of villagers were present.
