Especially on social media, posts are being made in opposition to and in support of the murder. Four things have emerged from this murder
(1) Is it right to kill Kamal Kaur Bhabhi alias Kanchan Kumari on the grounds that she used to post obscene videos on social media made by herself?
(2) Is it right for media influencers and other users to post all kinds of lewd and pornographic content on social media?
(3) Shouldn’t there be some guidelines regarding posting content on social media keeping in mind the interests of society and especially the new generation?
(4) Shouldn’t there be a mechanism to take action against those who violate the proposed guidelines within a specified time and to remove the obscene and lewd content posted by them or content that harms the society in other ways?
In this regard, we are clearly of the opinion that the obscene, vulgar and hateful content (videos and text posts) being posted on social media platforms like Facebook, YouTube, Instagram and other existing media platforms is a huge international problem. To solve this, the country and local authorities within each country need to make appropriate arrangements. In this regard, the efforts made in India at the national level on laws have not proved adequate so far. There is a large amount of obscene, vulgar and hateful content on social media platforms. But still, no party or person has the right in a democratic and law-abiding country to take the law into their own hands and try to kill or otherwise cause physical and financial damage to people posting obscene or vulgar content on social media platforms. In this regard, this act committed by Amritpal Singh Mehron and his associates is a crime in the eyes of the law and large sections of society and the perpetrators of this crime will have to face punishment. Those who are justifying the murder of Kamal Kaur Bhabhi alias Kanchan Rani are doing the right thing neither from the point of view of law nor from the point of view of social concerns, but those people are working to increase anarchy in the society and incite other people, especially the youth, to take the law into their own hands. There may be many flaws in the political and legal system of our country, but if we have a complaint against any party or person or we believe that their actions are not in the interest of the country and society, then we have two options for action (1) Complain to the relevant authority in this regard. (2) Planned efforts should be made to create awareness in the society in this regard and to oppose the concerned people in an organized manner. We all know that the central government has made efforts to force social media platforms like Facebook, YouTube and Instagram to appoint their representatives in India and to remove the obscene, obscene and hateful content posted on social media platforms from their platforms on a timely basis, keeping in mind the complaints made by the people. In this regard, complaints are also made from time to time by the people and the relevant social media platforms take action against them by closing the accounts of various people and sometimes even banning them temporarily. Apart from this, if anyone complains to the police in this regard, they also register an FIR against those who post wrong content on social media platforms and take action to remove the objectionable content by accessing the social media platforms. Legal action is also taken against the culprits. Undoubtedly, those who complain in this regard rightly complain that the government administration and international companies operating social media platforms often take a long time to take appropriate action against the culprits and till then, obscene, vulgar and objectionable content continues to circulate on social media platforms, which also has a negative impact on the image of the individuals to whom the content is related and such content also continues to harm society. It is necessary that the laws made by the Central Government to regulate social media should be studied and made more stringent and efficient, so that the responsibility of those who post content on social media platforms can be fixed and the harm caused to society due to such content can also be prevented.
In this regard, people also complain that the Central Government and various state governments take immediate action to remove content critical of their policies and their performance on social media platforms by putting pressure on the companies operating social media platforms. Cases are registered against those who upload such content as soon as possible and they are also arrested. But the governments do not take action quickly enough to remove the content that is vulgar, obscene and creates hatred in the society. Due to this, some people start justifying taking action against those who serve vulgar and obscene content by taking the law into their own hands. The governments also need to be aware of this aspect.
There should be effective efforts at the government and non-government levels to stop the negative use of this technology that is increasing in the society. Especially, there should be counseling for those young boys and girls who have uploaded obscene content on social media platforms.
