Damdami Taksal has been in trouble for supporting BJP in the Maharashtra assembly elections. On one hand, Damdami Taksal is being heavily criticized on social media and on the other hand, many Sikh groups are also opposing the decision of Damdami Taksal head Baba Harnam Singh Dhumma. The situation has become such that Baba Harnam Singh Dhumma has become isolated in the Sikh community.
In fact, the issue of Damdami Taksal supporting BJP during the elections in Maharashtra has become a hot topic. In this matter, Jathedar of Takht Damdama Sahib Giani Harpreet Singh said that the decision to give unconditional support to BJP is not right and unconditional support should not have been given. He said that governments are continuously ignoring Sikhs in Sikh matters. Giani Harpreet Singh said that despite the announcement, the captive Sikhs have not been released. Now in the case of Chandigarh, the rights of Punjab are being taken away. Earlier, the Shiromani Akali Dal had also given unconditional support to the BJP, but despite the BJP government at the center for the last 11 years, the issue of Sikhs and Punjab has not been resolved. Similarly, the president of the Delhi unit of the Shiromani Akali Dal, Paramjit Singh Sarna, had said that the sentiments of the community are linked to Damdami Taksal and “the unilateral support given by the current head of Damdami Taksal, Baba Harnam Singh Khalsa, to the BJP in the Maharashtra elections is against the sentiments of the Sikh community.” He alleged that the BJP government has not resolved any issue of the Sikhs so far.
