This incident from a village near Ayodhya describes the brutality meted out to the Dalit girl. The girl had gone missing. The body was found naked. Her hands and feet were tied with ropes. Her eyes were gouged out. The bones of the body were broken. There were injury marks at various places on the body. The family alleges that if the police had taken timely action on the complaint of the missing daughter three days ago, their daughter’s life could have been saved. The family found her body in a small canal about 500 meters from her village on Saturday morning. Family members have suspected that the girl was gang-raped and then murdered.
This brutal incident has revived memories of the Hathras incident. Such incidents are coming up one after the other continuously. The question is why such incidents are not stopping in Uttar Pradesh?
This incident has also created unrest in political circles. Ayodhya MP Awadhesh Prasad has threatened to resign from his post as an MP if the family does not get justice. Awadhesh Prasad appeared before the media on Sunday and started crying while talking about the incident. He said, ‘I failed to save her’. The angry MP said, ‘Let me go to Delhi, Lok Sabha.’ I will take this matter to Modi and if we do not get justice, I will resign from Lok Sabha.
Priyanka Gandhi alleged, ‘Anyone will be ashamed to hear about the kind of barbarity meted out to a Dalit girl who went to listen to Bhagwat Katha in Ayodhya.’ Such barbaric incidents shame the entire humanity. The girl was missing for three days but the police did nothing. In the BJP’s jungle rule, there is no one to listen to the cries of Dalits, tribals, backward people and poor people. The UP government has become synonymous with atrocities on Dalits.
Rahul alleged, ‘The Uttar Pradesh government should immediately investigate this crime, give the most severe punishment to the culprits and take strict action against the responsible police personnel.’
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi alleged that under the anti-Bahujan BJP rule, especially in Uttar Pradesh, heinous atrocities, injustice and murders against Dalits are increasing uncontrollably.
Hathras case: Like Ayodhya, the brutality meted out to a Dalit girl in Hathras also shook the entire country. Four years ago in 2020, when the gang rape incident took place, no case was initially registered. There were no proper arrangements for the treatment of the victim and she died after being brought to Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital after political interference. The police cremated her overnight in the absence of her family members. The family members kept yearning that at least they could show their faces to them, but this could not happen. The family had made several allegations in this entire case.
A 19-year-old girl was gang-raped in Hathras and the assailants also cut off her tongue. The girl also had deep injuries on her back. The police had said that there were injuries on her collarbone as the rapists tried to strangle her with her dupatta.
Gang rape and murder of Dalit sisters
Two years ago, a serious case of gang rape and murder of Dalit sisters came to light in Lakhimpur Kheri, UP. This incident took place on September 14, 2022. Two minor Dalit sisters from a village in Nighasan area were kidnapped, gang-raped and then brutally murdered. Their bodies were found hanging from a tree in a sugarcane field near the village. In late 2023, the body of a 40-year-old Dalit woman was found impaled on the floor of a flour mill in a village in Banda, Uttar Pradesh. . The family accused upper-caste people of gang rape and murder, but the police said it was an accident. The victim’s family had lodged a complaint at the Banda police station on the evening of her alleged rape and murder. They had alleged gang rape and murder. According to the report, a relative had said that he had heard screams and seen three people coming out of the mill. He also saw three more people climbing over the back wall.
Muzaffarnagar case:
In 2019, a minor Dalit girl was raped and murdered in UP’s Muzaffarnagar district. The deceased girl worked at a brick kiln. A case was then registered against the owner of the brick kiln and six others. These seven people are accused of first raping a 14-year-old girl and then burning her to death.
