The Punjab-Haryana High Court has sought complete details of all FIRs registered against Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh and his associates. Amritpal Singh and his associates are lodged in Dibrugarh Jail under the National Security Act.
The High Court has directed the District Magistrates (DMs) of Amritsar and Moga to submit complete information in this regard to the court by February 17. This matter relates to the arrest of Amritpal Singh and his associates and the transparency of the cases registered against them. After this order of the High Court, the administration will have to submit all the FIRs and other related documents so far in the court.
Amritpal was arrested in April 2023.
Amritpal Singh was arrested by the police in April 2023. Since then, he and some of his associates have been lodged in Dibrugarh Jail in Assam under the National Security Act. His supporters and several organizations have raised questions about his arrest.
Case registered under UAPA
Member of Parliament Amritpal Singh and foreign gangster Arshdeep Singh alias Arsh Dalla have also been registered under UAPA (Unlawful Activities Prevention Act). This action has been taken by the Faridkot district police in the case of the murder of a youth associated with communal organizations, Gurpreet Singh Harino. In fact, DGP Gaurav Yadav had claimed in a press conference after Gurpreet’s murder that evidence has been found during the investigation which shows the role of Amritpal Singh, the head of the ‘Waris Punjab De’ organization, in the murder conspiracy. He had said that according to some statements recorded during the investigation, the murder was done on the instructions of Amritpal Singh.
The SIT had informed the Faridkot court in writing about the addition of UAPA in this case. Gurpreet Singh Harino, former finance secretary of Panthic organizations and Waris Punjab Sansthan, was shot dead by bikers in his village on October 9 last year.
After the death of actor Deep Sidhu, Amritpal Singh, the head of Waris Punjab Sansthan, took over the charge of the organization, after which Finance Secretary Gurpreet Singh Harino left the organization. The father of 36-year-old young man Gurpreet Singh, Hakam Singh, is a small farmer. He has 2 acres of land where he supports his family by farming. Gurpreet Singh’s mother Ravinder Kaur is a housewife. Apart from Gurpreet, the family includes his younger sister Harpreet Kaur, wife and a small child of about 9 years old. Gurpreet was a Gursikh youth.
A few years ago, he increased his activity in the Panthic circles of Amrit Chak. According to the people of the village, he was a good-natured person. Wherever the Panth was discussed, he was a leader.
He was also continuously involved in the Behbal Kalan Insaf Morcha with Sukhraj Singh Nyamiwala, son of the late Krishan Bhagwan Singh.
Who is Bhai Amritpal Singh
Bhai Amritpal Singh is the head of the ‘Waris Punjab De’ organization, he has been stating that his goal is the creation of an autonomous state (Khalistan) for Sikhs. But now his organization has started walking on democratic paths according to the constitution. After living in Dubai for many years, he returned to Punjab in August last year and started connecting the youth with him in the name of Amrit Sanchar and the drug de-addiction movement. But he had come into controversy due to his heated speeches and the violence in front of Ajnala police station due to the burning of benches in gurdwaras. He was arrested by the police from village Rode in the early hours of April 23, 2023 and sent to Dibrugarh jail in Assam. He is under NSA and is still in jail.
Meanwhile, Amritpal Singh’s name has also come up in the murder of Gurpreet Singh Harino on October 9, 2024, and UAPA has been imposed on him in this case.
