The devastation caused by World War II killed millions of people. That’s why people get scared whenever there is talk of World War III. But now scientists have claimed that if World War III happens, humans will become like superheroes in Hollywood movies. They may have bullet-proof skin and innate flying skills. Professor Tim Coulson of Oxford University, a Royal Society-honored zoologist and biologist, believes that nuclear war could cause such evolutionary changes that humans would be unrecognizable after it. He suggests that genetic changes could occur in humans after a global nuclear conflict. These changes could create ‘super-humans’ who would be stronger, fitter and more capable of fighting than we are today. He believes that we can achieve ‘hyper-intelligence’ by dealing with a harsh environment, building shelters and combining lost technology and science. He claims that humans can shrink and have wings to fly like bats.
Writing in the European magazine, he said that major changes in the human form will take millions of years. But it could start with World War III. But he said, ‘In the future, humans could evolve to become highly intelligent and possess incredible strength. They could also have the ability to fly like bats.
He further wrote, ‘This may be far-fetched. But who would have thought that a creature that looked like a small jellyfish half a billion years ago would become a human?’
Evolution is the process by which living things, including humans, change over time through genetic mutation and natural selection. Organisms develop traits that enhance survival and reproduction. However, events such as environmental disasters, war, disease and climate change can change the evolutionary direction. This can speed up the process of evolution.
