There is good news for the police personnel in Khanna. The district police has implemented a policy of one day off per week for the employees. Despite challenges like shortage of staff, SSP Darpan Ahluwalia has taken this step to improve the mental and physical health of the police force.
SSP Darpan Ahluwalia has issued these orders under the provisions of Section 22 of the Police Act 1861. Along with this, a weekly roster has also been issued for the SHOs of all 8 police stations in the district. All the police station in-charges have been instructed to prepare a similar roster for the employees working under them so that there is no disruption in the work of policing. This weekly leave will not be considered as ‘leave’.
The employees will remain at their place of posting and can be called back to duty in case of any emergency. Currently, there are about 700 police personnel deployed in Khanna. On the other hand, there are 200 police personnel in the police stations. The SSP admitted that managing duty with less deployment is a challenge but still the welfare of the force cannot be ignored.
