A 28-year-old girl died tragically in a fire that broke out in a house in New Vijay Nagar area of Jalandhar on Monday evening. The girl was mentally ill and could not escape the fire. The incident took place on Monday evening when a fire suddenly broke out in a house in New Vijay Nagar. The fire spread so fast that one room of the house was completely destroyed.Anu Palial, SHO of Police Station 4, said that the police received a call about the fire at around 7:51 pm. Police and fire brigade teams immediately reached the spot. The woman was lying on her bed in her room when the fire broke out. Due to her mental health, she was unable to raise the alarm or escape on her own. She died on the spot after being engulfed in flames.Initial investigation has revealed that the PVC sheets covering the walls of the house further fueled the fire. It is suspected that the fire broke out due to a short circuit. The police have taken the body into their possession and started further investigation. The deceased woman is said to be the niece of a Congress leader. The police are investigating the matter.
