A Chandigarh court has released a couple accused of dumping their newborn baby girl’s body in the bushes instead of sentencing her. The court took this decision considering their five young children.
When the police filed the chargesheet in the court, the couple confessed to their crime. After learning about the couple’s circumstances, the court ruled that it would be appropriate to release them in the interest of justice instead of sending them to jail. The court released them on probation for six months. However, they were ordered to appear when summoned to serve their sentence during this period. During this period, they will be supervised by a probation officer.
While releasing them, the court said that the accused have young children to look after and if they are sent to jail, there will be no one to look after them. Considering these circumstances, according to my view, it is appropriate to release the accused on probation in the interest of justice.
According to the police chargesheet, the Sector-3 police arrested Runa Devi and her husband, Arvind Mukhiya, on September 9, 2025. They are accused of secretly dumping their newborn baby girl in the bushes near Hair Masters in Sector-9 with the intention of hiding her birth and death. The police had registered a case against them in this regard.
