A 25-year-old youth, Jasvir Singh, died of drug overdose yesterday in Sherewal village of Sidhwan Bet block of Jagraon. Five other brothers and father of deceased Jasvir Singh have already lost their lives to drugs in the same house and now the mother of the deceased, Chhinder Kaur, along with her two daughters-in-law, two grandsons and a granddaughter, who are present in the house, is now demanding justice for her family.
On this occasion, when we talked to the relatives of the deceased Jasvir Singh and the villagers, it was found that the deceased Jasvir’s father, Mukhtiar Singh, had an accident in the year 2012 while in a drunken state due to excessive alcohol consumption and after that, a boy also died of drugs in the same year. After that, from 2021 to January 2026, five more boys of the deceased Mukhtiar Singh also died of drugs one by one. Due to which only an elderly mother, Chhinder Kaur, is left in this family now. Who is demanding justice from the police for her children.
On this occasion, the relatives of this family and the villagers said that drugs are sold in our area and the police do not take any action. Due to which one or the other death keeps happening here every day. The police have registered a case against a woman and another person after the death of Jasvir Singh yesterday. But no arrest has been made yet. They are demanding justice from the police.

On this occasion, when we talked to Rajwinder Singh, in-charge of the police post Gidderwindi adjacent to this village, he said that it has not been confirmed that the deceased Jasvir Singh died of drugs. Confirmation will be made only after the postmortem report comes. At present, the police have registered a case against a woman and a person and started their action. However, the woman against whom a case has now been registered for drug trafficking, the same woman’s husband has already been sent to jail after a case was registered for drug trafficking on January 9th.
