The Fisheries Department conducted a surprise check at the Wholesale Fish Market, Tajpur Road and recovered 2 quintals of banned Mangur fish.
Giving information through a press note, Assistant Director Fisheries, Ludhiana Jatinder Singh Grewal said that under the guidelines issued by Director and Warden Fisheries, Punjab Gurpreet Singh and the able guidance of Deputy Commissioner Ludhiana Himanshu Jain, IAS, the Wholesale Fish Market, Tajpur Road, Ludhiana was checked today. He said that during the checking, about 2 quintals of banned Mangur fish were recovered from shop number 23.
The shopkeeper was strictly reprimanded for not selling banned Mangur fish, the recovered Mangur fish was buried in a pit at the Government Fish Poong Farm, Mohi.
Assistant Director Grewal said that a notice was issued by the Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana a few days ago regarding not selling Mangoor fish in Ludhiana district, under which the Fisheries Department also distributed notices to all the shopkeepers and the notice was pasted outside the shops which were closed at that time. But still some shopkeepers were selling Mangoor fish ignoring the notice of the district administration. Therefore, a surprise check was conducted at the fish market today and Mangoor fish was recovered during the raid.
He clarified that similar surprise raids will continue in the future as well and strict action will be taken against those selling Mangoor fish.
