Taking a major step towards empowering the residents living within the red line, Punjab Power Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO and Rajya Sabha member Sanjeev Arora today awarded ownership rights to 158 families under the “Mera Ghar Mere Naam” scheme. The certificates were distributed during a special function organised at the Langar Hall of Gurdwara Sadh Sangat Sahib Haibowal Kalan.
Speaking at the function, MP Sanjeev Arora termed the initiative as a historic step aimed at resolving the long-standing property ownership issues in Haibowal area (Ward No. 65). The residents had been demanding legal ownership of their properties for the last 50 years.
Arora stressed on the far-reaching impact of the scheme, saying that it not only resolves decades-old challenges but also restores dignity and opens up new economic avenues for the residents. “This scheme provides legal recognition to residents and enables them to use their properties for financial development – be it through loans or future planning for their families,” he said.
The initiative was highly appreciated by the residents of Haibowal, who expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Arora for fulfilling a long-pending demand. Earlier this month, 990 beneficiaries in Sunet and Barewal were given similar ownership rights at a function held at Guru Nanak Dev Bhawan on May 6. At that function, Arora had announced that Haibowal would also be included in the next phase – a promise fulfilled today.
Arora, the AAP candidate from Ludhiana (West), said that the issue of ownership of the red stripe has been raised frequently during his campaign meetings in Sunet, Barewal and Haibowal. “Legal ownership empowers residents to use their property as a financial asset, promoting freedom and stability,” he said.
Power Minister Harbhajan Singh Ito highlighted the state government’s commitment under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to strengthen socio-economic security and address public grievances. He said that the land records were carefully checked by the revenue officials to ensure correct ownership. Praising Arora’s efforts, he said, “The people of Ludhiana are fortunate to have such a dynamic, development-oriented leader.”
Ludhiana Mayor Principal Inderjit Kaur, Senior Deputy Mayor Rakesh Parashar, Deputy Mayor Prince Johar, Aradhana Mani Sai and Trishul Aul were also present on the occasion.
