The general house elections of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee are likely to be held in June 2025. The Election Commissioners and District Deputy Commissioners of Punjab, Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh, who were asked to resolve the objections received regarding the voter lists by April 17, were again banned from filing the voter lists by writing a letter to the Chief Commissioner Gurdwara Elections. In the Punjab and Haryana High Court, some Sikhs of Haryana had demanded that votes be drawn up in Haryana as well, and this was also supported by the lawyer of the Shiromani Gurdwara Committee, on which the court has issued a notice to the concerned parties and the Chief Commissioner Gurdwara Elections for April 28, blocking the finalization of the voter lists. Interestingly, the Haryana government had passed a separate act from its own legislature to form a separate committee, to stop which the Shiromani Gurdwara Committee fought a battle up to the Supreme Court, but the high court had declared a separate committee for Haryana as legal.
The Haryana government had also conducted the general house election of the Haryana Gurdwara Management Committee some time ago by counting the votes of the Sikhs in the state, while the election of the office bearers and the election of the nominated members are yet to be held. Legal experts say that it will not be possible to stop the election now regarding the matter which has been finalized up to the High Court. Due to the separation of the Haryana committee, this time the votes for the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee elections were not held in Haryana because two committees cannot control the gurdwaras of Haryana. During the elections held 14 years ago, about five lakh votes were cast in Haryana, but this time, more than 51 lakh votes have been cast for one seat each in Punjab, Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh.
Legal experts believe that the Government of India does not want to delay these elections any longer because these elections have already been delayed for more than 9 years and after getting the green signal from the court, the process of issuing the schedule for the elections will be started. Legal experts also believe that the government election process of any level cannot be stopped at any level once it starts and with the start of counting of votes of the Shiromani Committee, the election process for this election has started in the state. This election is being considered very important by the political elite because the election of the General House of the Shiromani Committee will also reveal the trend in the mood of the Sikh voters, regarding which there is a lot of confusion at present.
