Yesterday, there was a ruckus outside the Sikh bike showroom in Sarvehra Nagar of Rishikesh, Uttarakhand. Bibi Ranjit Kaur, the head of the women’s wing of the Shiromani Akali Dal Delhi unit, said in a statement issued to the media that according to the owner of the showroom, Ranjit Singh, Councilor Veerpal, who became a councilor two months ago after winning the elections, used to repeatedly demand money from her for election expenses during the elections, but she could not help him. After winning the elections, Veerpal started harassing her on some pretext or the other. Yesterday, he came with his nephews and other people and started misbehaving inside the showroom and the matter escalated to a fight, after which the people who came with him vandalized the showroom, kicked the women, abused them and made them take off their turbans and pulled their hair. The act of these goons touching the turbans of Sikhs and pulling the hair is intolerable and unacceptable, which we strongly condemn. Therefore, in view of the sacrilege of turbans and hair, the police should make sections of hurting religious sentiments in the pamphlet. He said that the question arises that if the councilor had a problem with the parking of vehicles by the showroom owners, why did he not take legal recourse and why did he not resolve the matter peacefully by talking to the municipal or police officials. We demand from the Uttarakhand government and police administration that strict action be taken against people with a heinous mentality like Veerpal and the councilorship of Veerpal, who is dangerous to the society, should be withdrawn. If strict action is not taken against them, these people can also instigate riots in the state.
