Another round of layoffs is about to begin at Meta, the parent company of Instagram on Facebook. According to reports, the company led by CEO Mark Zuckerberg is set to lay off 3,600 employees next week. Meta recently announced that it plans to lay off 5 percent of the company’s “lowest performers.” That is, employees whose performance has not been up to expectations will be laid off.
According to the report, the layoffs will begin in several countries, including the US. However, in countries like Germany, France, Italy, and the Netherlands, layoffs will not be carried out due to local labor laws. In other countries in Europe, Asia, and Africa, notices will be sent to employees.
Despite the layoffs, Meta told its employees in an internal memo that the company will hire machine learning engineers quickly.
Job openings in the US fell to a three-month low in December 2024, according to a Bloomberg report. The number of available jobs fell from 8.16 million in November to 7.60 million in December, according to the JOLTS report released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
