The extremely hateful statement made by BJP leader Parvesh Verma against all Punjabis is unacceptable under any circumstances. Parvesh Verma should immediately apologize for this statement and BJP should also clarify its position on this statement.
Shiromani Akali Dal Delhi unit President S. Paramjit Singh Sarna said in a statement to the press that Parvesh Verma should remember that since 1947 till now if the country’s borders are secure then Punjabis have a big contribution behind it. During the 1965 war, if a turbaned Sikh and Punjab General Harbakhsh Singh had not been there, then perhaps Pakistan’s borders would have been further than Delhi. It was the Sikh soldiers of Punjab who prevented the entire Kashmir from becoming a part of Pakistan during the tribal invasion of 1948. This statement of Parvesh Verma is an insult to all Punjabis who sacrificed their lives for the country. For this, Parvesh Verma should immediately apologize. This statement reveals the intentions of BJP leaders who pretend to be pro-Sikh and Punjabi for show but are filled with hatred towards them from the inside. BJP should clarify whether they agree with Parvesh Verma’s statement or not and BJP does not consider Punjab as a part of the country. I would like to say that Punjabis have as much right over Delhi as every citizen of the country.
