These words uttered by Guru Ji about 500 years ago are being used continuously by almost all water conservation organizations so that a sense of water conservation can be created in the minds of the common people. Today, Punjab, made up of five rivers, has such a situation that along with the low level of groundwater, the existence of pure water is constantly being denied. Water is the basis of human life, without which its existence cannot be considered possible. When a person drinks water, the elements in it enter the body, which play an important role in the development of his life.
The soil washed down from the mountains by the water of the rivers of Punjab had provided prosperity to this region, seeing which, the minds of the external invaders were filled with resentment. Their continuous attacks left no stone unturned in plundering and devastat- ing this region. When the rule of the external invaders was established in India, what atrocities did they not commit on the people here? The rulers here were successful in saving their kingdom by giving them their daughters in marriage, but the people of Punjab did not accept their marriage. To save the common people from the oppression of the rulers, Guru Gobind Singh Ji had mixed the juice of Bani in the water here, from which the nectar of the sword prepared taught the people here to live a life full of pride and self-respect while resisting oppression and tyranny.
In the areas of Punjab which were far from rivers, the Gurus had dug wells in those areas so that water could be supplied to the common people. The wells dug by the Gurus, along with supplying water, also worked to remove the feeling of caste and discrimination. The wells dug by the Gurus in towns like Goindwal Sahib, Dhamtan Sahib etc. are a part of history. Apart from this, the Gurus had made the water of those wells sweet which were salty.
