467 cases registered under the war on drugs, 623 people arrested, 20 kg heroin, 15 kg opium and 300 kg poppy husk recovered
Special attention will be paid to those who come on bail in drug cases, bail will be cancelled if they join the drug trade again
Ludhiana, July 4: Under the war on drugs campaign launched by the Punjab government, the Ludhiana Police Commissionerate has arrested 5 people under the CASO operation conducted at village Talwandi under police station Ladowal on Friday morning.
Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma, while talking to reporters in this regard, said that 8 people were kept under surveillance by the police, out of which 5 people have been caught, from whom 150 and 170 grams of heroin have been recovered under different seizures. He said that based on the information available with the police and public complaints, 8 persons from village Talwandi were being kept under surveillance for the last several days, out of which 5 have been arrested, against whom 18 cases have already been registered and they were out on bail.
Talking about the policy prepared by the Commissionerate Police under the war on drugs campaign, the Police Commission said that the CIA, Crime Branch and Special Cell in Ludhiana are working with full determination to eradicate drugs, which has yielded meaningful results. He said that these three branches have been given the responsibility of breaking the drug supply chain, which is being performed by them efficiently. Giving information about the action taken by the Commissionerate Police under the war on drugs campaign during the last four months, Swapan Sharma said that during this period, 467 cases of NDPS Act have been registered in the Ludhiana Commissionerate and 623 persons involved in the drug trade have been arrested. He said that during this time 20 kg heroin, 15 kg opium and about 300 kg poppy husk have been recovered.
Talking about the conviction rate in NDPS Act cases at Commissionerate Ludhiana, Swapan Sharma said that there is a 92 percent conviction rate in the cases of the Commissionerate which is a good performance. He said that 14 properties related to drug smugglers have been frozen, worth about Rs 3 crore. He said that 10 illegal and occupied properties related to drug smugglers have been demolished within the limits of the Commissionerate Police. He said that so far 18 CASO operations have been carried out and drug smugglers have been tightened, besides the police have admitted 105 people who were drug addicts to rehabilitation centers and 627 people are undergoing treatment through OAT clinics. He said that under the contact meetings started under the campaign, 345 meetings have been held with the people and they have been made aware of the ill effects of drugs so that no one can get caught up in drugs. He said that police patrolling is also being intensified in the city so that crime can be stopped. On this occasion, DCP (Investigation) Harpal Singh, ACP Harshpreet Singh, ADCP Kanwalpreet Singh were present.
Special thing will be written in the bail orders of those coming out on bail in drug cases: Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma said that the Commissionerate Police is getting a special entry in the bail orders of those coming out on bail in drug cases that if they get involved in the drug business again, their bail will be cancelled. He said that the Commissionerate Police has cancelled the bails in 6 such cases.
