Bhai Nand Lal was a spiritual master, an embodiment of spirituality and a scholar of the highest order. He was a great scholar of Sanskrit, Arabic, Persian, Punjabi and Brij language. His father had good relations with the Mughal dynasty. Due to his scholarly prowess, he was appointed as the teacher of Bahadur Shah, son of Aurangzeb. Bhai Nand Lal has the honor of being the court poet of Guru Gobind Singh. Out of the 52 poets of the court of Guru Sahib, Bhai Nand Lal is the only poet whose works are sung in the form of kirtan. The multifaceted personality of Guru Gobind Singh emerges from the works of Bhai Nand Lal. Guru Gobind Singh was a strategic leader, a general, a master of swords, a wise man and possessed countless other qualities. In Bhai Nand Lal’s Persian work ‘Ganjanama’, the ten Gurus from Guru Nanak Dev to Guru Gobind Singh have been praised with immense devotion and love in prose and poetry. The fundamental principle of light and strategy is very important in Sikhism.
