Rajya Sabha member from Punjab Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahni has opposed the criticism questioning the patriotism of famous actor Diljit Dosanjh, terming it as injustice to a great artist like Dosanjh. Referring to the controversy that has arisen over the film ‘Sardar Ji 3’, Dr. Sahni said that attacking the film and Diljit Dosanjh’s patriotism seems unfair, especially when he has made it clear with evidence that the film was shot in February, much before the tragic Pahelgam incident, during which an India-Pakistan cricket match also took place. He appealed that we should not confuse time frames or facts while judging anyone. Dr. Sahni also praised Diljit Dosanjh for his sensitivity towards public sentiments and mentioned his decision not to release the film in India. He has shown a great sense of patriotism towards the country by respecting the sentiments of the people and deciding not to release the film in Indian cinemas.
Citing Diljit’s invaluable role as a global ambassador of Indian culture, Dr. Sahni said that the FWICE’s call to revoke the artist’s citizenship and ban his music was a very bold and inappropriate decision, saying that from Coachella to the Met Gala, Diljit has made India proud. He has always said that he is a proud Indian and a proud Punjabi. We should celebrate our cultural heroes and not malign them on the basis of misinformation and irrationality.
