The Chief Ministers of Haryana and Punjab met once again in Chandigarh to find a solution to the Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) canal dispute. All issues were discussed during the meeting that lasted for about two hours. After the meeting, Haryana Chief Minister Naib Saini and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwat Mann held a joint press conference. After the meeting, the Chief Ministers of both the states said that the meeting took place in a good atmosphere.
After the meeting, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said, Haryana is our brother, not our enemy. No one’s rights should be taken away. We are the heirs of Bhai Kanhaiya, who used to give water to our enemies too. It has been decided that the officials of both the states will now be involved in further discussions. This issue is old, but now that the new generation has come, I believe that the dispute should be resolved.
He said that we want no one to violate anyone’s rights. Finally, he said in his statement, “What is the point of building a canal when there is no water? It would be better to have a water sharing agreement before the canal is built.” The officials will now hold regular meetings to resolve the issue. We will not wait for the Supreme Court date.
Haryana Chief Minister Naib Saini said, “The discussions took place in a very good atmosphere.” When discussions take place in a good atmosphere, meaningful results are achieved. We held the meeting as per the Supreme Court guidelines. The previous discussions were also held in the presence of Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil. We have decided that officials from both the states will now be involved in further discussions.”
