Security arrangements have been tightened in Amritsar city after receiving a bomb threat to blow up the spiritual shrine of Sikhs, Sri Darbar Sahib. The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee received this threat through an email from an unknown person, in which it was said that a bomb has been placed in the langar hall of Sri Darbar Sahib and the blast will take place at 3 pm. This incident has created anger and concern among the Sikh community, while the police, seeing the seriousness of the matter, have immediately started an investigation. Bomb disposal squads and anti-sabotage teams have been deployed inside and outside Sri Darbar Sahib, increasing security.
Immediate action by the police and the Shiromani Committee
Shiromani Committee Chief Manager Bhagwant Singh Dhangera said that a thorough inspection has been carried out inside the Sri Darbar Sahib complex, but no suspicious object has been found so far. He suspected that the threat might be linked to the presence of Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal, as there was a meeting of representatives of Sikh organisations in the Sri Harmandir Sahib complex, in which Sukhbir Singh Badal was also present. Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar confirmed that security arrangements have been made considering the seriousness of the threat. Initial investigation has revealed that it could be the work of some mischievous element, who was referring to some incidents that took place in South India.
Is it the hand of communal forces or the perpetrators of sacrilege?
This threat has raised questions in the Sikh community as to who could be behind it. Sri Darbar Sahib is the greatest centre of faith for Sikhs, and there have been attempts to target this holy place in the past as well. Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee officials have expressed apprehension that this threat may be a conspiracy by some communal forces or those involved in cases related to the sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. In the past, incidents of sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji had hurt the sentiments of the Sikh community, and the community is considering such threats as part of this conspiracy. However, the police have not yet directly held any specific group or individual responsible in this case. Police Commissioner Bhullar said that all aspects are being considered during the investigation, and the cyber crime cell is engaged in tracing the source of the email.
Several Sikh organizations and devotees have strongly condemned the incident on social media. Questions are also being raised on the Punjab government regarding the security of Sri Darbar Sahib. The community believes that such threats are a conspiracy to tarnish the peaceful identity of Sikhism. The police and Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee’s activities have kept the situation under control, but this incident has emerged as a major challenge for the Sikh community.
