Three suspected militants, Gurvinder Singh (25), Varinder Singh alias Ravi (23) and Jashanpreet Singh alias Pratap Singh (18), allegedly involved in the grenade attack in Punjab’s Gurdaspur, were killed in an encounter with a joint team of Uttar Pradesh and Punjab police in Pilibhit early yesterday. Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav has termed it a major success of the police against the Pakistan-backed Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF) module. Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav says that the attacks on police stations and posts in Punjab are being carried out from abroad by Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF) chief Ranjit Singh Neeta. Neeta is using Jaswinder Singh Baghi alias Manu Agwan, who is sitting in Greece, as a handler to carry out the attacks. Jagjit Singh, a handler based in Britain associated with KZF, had used the identity of ‘Fateh Singh Baghi’ to take responsibility for the blasts at police stations and outposts. Jagjit is working in the British Army. DIG Border Range Satinder Singh said that information had come to light in the technical and intelligence input that the accused involved in these blasts were hiding somewhere in Pilibhit, UP. Punjab Police had sent police teams from Gurdaspur to Pilibhit to launch a joint operation. He said that all of them were residents of Kalanaur in Gurdaspur district of Punjab and were involved in the grenade attack on Bakshiwala police station in Kalanaur. Later, KZF claimed responsibility for the attack. The encounter took place in Puranpur area of Pilibhit district of Uttar Pradesh.
