A petition has been filed in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, seeking directions to the authorities to ensure that no outsider, political party worker, social organisation, farmers’ organisations or other non-university organisations are allowed to enter the Panjab University to participate in any agitation.
It has been urged that the rallies should be confined to the Sector 25 Rally Ground, as per the orders of the District Magistrate issued under Section 163 of the BNSS. It has also been requested that directions be issued to set up a high-level Redressal Standing Committee under the Registrar, comprising DSW and student representatives, which is mandated to give a written response to any formal student/faculty complaint within a maximum of 15 working days. The petitioner said that this will ensure that legitimate issues are resolved immediately before they escalate into agitation. The petitioner also requested for allocating a suitable place for protests by registered students of Panjab University, i.e. near the health centre, and directions to provide adequate security to the administrative block, examination centres and academic departments. The police should take immediate and strict legal action including registering an FIR.
