The first Khalistani martyr of Canada, Bhai Hardeep Singh Ji Nijhar, was martyred by the Hindu fundamentalist government of India on June 18, 2023, by shooting him dead in the car parking lot of Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara Sahib Surrey Canada. Dedicated to his martyrdom and warm memory, the construction of a memorial gate has begun at the site of his martyrdom. The main structure frame of the memorial gate of Bhai Nijhar has been erected at the site of his martyrdom with the support of the management committee and all the devotees. The administrators of the Guru Ghar said that the remaining services will also be completed very soon with the grace of Guru Sahib Ji and the support of the devotees.
It is worth mentioning that some controversies had also started regarding this memorial gate, in which some heroes demanded to widen the gate, but the gate will be constructed in the same way as the gate has been approved by the Surrey City of Canada.
The gate-widening heroes have found a new map in the city, due to which the Gurdwara Sahib’s servants Bhai Gurmeet Singh Toor, Bhai Narinder Singh Khalsa, Bhai Avtar Singh Khaira and others have requested to wait for the decision till the date given by the city, avoiding any kind of mutual differences and conflicts.
Jathedar Bhai Jagtar Singh Ji Tara, who is lodged in Burail Jail, had given a message to the Guru Ghar and the community a few days ago that the memorial gate service should be completed without any hindrance and obstruction, and the same demand and request was raised by the management committees of various Gurdwara Sahibs and Sangats from different countries and abroad along with the family of Bhai Hardeep Singh Ji Nijjar that the memorial gate service should be completed with full spirit in the same way it has started. The management and servants of the Gurdwara Sahib said that if no decision is taken by the city by the given date, then accepting the demand and happiness of the sangat, the service of the memorial gate will be exactly as it has been started.
Along with the memorial gate, a monument is also to be constructed in which the picture of Shaheed Bhai Hardeep Singh Ji Nijjar and his devotion to the Panth and his inspiring life and history will be written and along with it, a 45-foot high Khalistan flag will also be hoisted.
There is a lot of joy, desire, love and enthusiasm for this memorial among the Sikh sangats from all over the country and abroad who love the national struggle and martyrs. The management has appealed to the entire sangat to cooperate with the ongoing work of constructing the gate with all their heart, mind and money.
