India will host the BRICS Summit in 2026, which is another prestigious opportunity to lead the global discussion on economic growth, innovation and multilateral cooperation. Welcoming the development, Rajya Sabha MP and Chairman of the BRICS Agri Council, Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sawhney said that India’s growing stature as a voice for the Global South has been rightly acknowledged, and hosting the next BRICS Summit will allow us to once again showcase our inclusive development model and global leadership as we did during the G20. Dr. Sawhney added that the BRICS 2025 Summit in Brazil witnessed important diplomatic victories for India, notably the clear condemnation of the Pahalgam terror attack and cross-border terrorism, and the strong support for India’s permanent seat in the UN Security Council, along with China and Russia. As Chairman of the BRICS Agri Council, Dr. Sahni added, “It is very encouraging to see India’s concerns about food, fuel and fertilizer supply chains reflected in the summit outcomes with the adaptation of the BRICS Grain Exchange. Dr. Sahni said that India’s leadership in AI governance, digitalization, UPI, Fintech innovation etc. was also appreciated and India’s leadership in the launch of the BRICS Startup Forum and the BRICS Startup Knowledge Hub was also appreciated. Dr. Sahni also mentioned that it is a major diplomatic achievement for India that all BRICS countries supported India’s candidacy to host the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change COP 33 in 2028.
