Chief Justice of India Justice D.Y. Chandrachud will be relieved from the post on Sunday. But the court will be closed on Saturday and Sunday on 9th and 10th. Therefore, the farewell ceremony was organized in his honor today. Today is his last working day in the Supreme Court. After the retirement of Justice Chandrachud on November 10, Justice Sanjiv Khanna will replace him. He will be the 51st Chief Justice of the country. Justice Chandrachud was sworn in as the 50th Chief Justice of India on 9 November 2022. He was promoted from Allahabad High Court on 13 May 2016. ‘When I was young, I used to come to the Supreme Court and see the proceedings’
Justice Chandrachud became emotional at the farewell ceremony and said, ‘At night I was thinking that the court would be empty at 2 pm and I would be seeing myself on the screen. I am overwhelmed by the presence of all of you.’ The CJI said, ‘When I was young, I used to come to the Supreme Court and see the proceedings here and the two pictures in the court. He said, Justice Chagla also had a great influence in the Bombay High Court.’
‘We are all like travellers, come for a while…’
He further said, ‘We are all like travellers here, who come for a while, do their work and then go away. This institution in the form of the court will continue forever and people with different views will keep coming to it. I am confident that after me, Justice Khanna will take this institution forward with strength and dignity.’ ‘New people give a new perspective to life’
The CJI also said that he will miss the experience of sitting and working with Justice J.B. Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Mishra. He said, ‘It is this court that inspires me to move forward. We meet people whom we did not know and these experiences give a new perspective to life.’
