The Shiromani Akali Dal has welcomed the announcement of the general elections of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee. Shiromani Akali Dal Delhi unit President Paramjit Singh Sarna and the party’s national senior vice president Manjit Singh GK. Thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi in this regard, they said that on June 23, we had submitted our resignation from the membership of the Delhi Committee to the Prime Minister’s Office. In our resignation letter, we had informed the Prime Minister about the government interference in the Sikh religious autonomy by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and two ministers Parvesh Verma and Manjinder Singh Sirsa. Along with this, we had also opposed the decision of the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi to hold the internal elections of the committee on June 25 instead of the general elections. After which now the Delhi Gurdwara Election Directorate has started the process of preparing a new photo list for the general elections. Both the Akali leaders, who are former presidents of the Delhi Committee, said that through a letter issued on July 3 by the Delhi Gurdwara Election Directorate, the addresses of all 46 wards’ zonal/ERO offices, names of 12 EROs of 23 zones and 46 AEROs have been issued. However, in the 46 wards’ zonal/ERO offices issued in this regard, old offices have been changed at many places. Along with this, two historical Gurdwaras Mata Sundari Ji and Damdama Sahib as well as 3-4 other local Gurdwaras managed by the Delhi Committee have also been made zonal/ERO offices. The above leaders said that despite the undeclared alliance between the Delhi government and the Delhi Committee, Prime Minister Modi’s strict removal of the hurdle in the Delhi Committee’s general elections will prove helpful in complying with the orders of the Delhi High Court. This is a moral defeat for those power-addicted people of Delhi who were dreaming of maintaining their illegal hold on the Delhi Committee with the help of the government.
