Keeping in view the vision of Chief Minister Punjab Mr. Bhagwant Singh Mann, the campaign to make every village of the Khanna assembly constituency drug-free is going on with enthusiasm and the large gathering of people during the drug-free yatra in various villages is giving proof that the people are fearlessly following the vision of the Mann government.
This was expressed by Khanna MLA and Punjab Cabinet Minister Mr. Tarunpreet Singh Saund while addressing awareness meetings organized under the drug-free yatra in the villages of Boothgarh, Mahoun, Ramgarh, Malakpur, Hario Kalan and Majra Rahoun of the constituency today. He said that no citizen should leave any stone unturned in making a firm pledge to make the state drug-free and in fulfilling that pledge.
Cabinet Minister Saund said that Village Defense Committees are functioning in every village of the constituency and we fully hope that these defense committees will contribute to completely stopping the business of drug smugglers by fulfilling their responsibility with full zeal and honesty.
He said that it is also the duty of the people who attend the awareness meetings to continuously share the messages they receive from here with their family members, friends, neighbors and other dignitaries because only with the formation of a people’s movement can such social evils be eradicated.
Saund said that the state government has issued a WhatsApp helpline number 97791-00200 to seek the cooperation of the people in this war. He asked the people to provide any information about drug smugglers running illegal activities in their area on this WhatsApp number. He said that the identity of the person calling will be kept confidential.
During his visit, the Cabinet Minister invited every village, every family and every youth to join the drug de-addiction journey. He said that the government has started the drug de-addiction journey to ensure direct access to every citizen in the villages and wards so that free and appropriate treatment can be provided to the people trapped in the swamp of drugs by taking direct feedback from the people.
Saund asked the village defense committees to extend maximum cooperation in the efforts being made by the Punjab government to eradicate drugs from the state and to motivate the villagers to unite in the continuous war against drugs and support the state government. He appealed to the village panchayats to bring drug addicts to government de-addiction centers for their detoxification.
He said that the drug de-addiction journey is an initiative of the state government to eradicate drugs, through which direct contact is being maintained with the people and a large-scale help is being provided in completely eradicating drugs from the state.
Cabinet Minister Saund also assured all the attendees of their full cooperation in the drug eradication campaign. He appealed to the people to cooperate with the administration and police department in creating a drug free Punjab.
Cabinet Minister Saund announced that model playgrounds will be prepared in 2 acres each in Boothgarh village at a cost of about Rs. 35 lakh and in Majra Rahaun village at a cost of about Rs. 20 lakh within the next 4 months. Apart from this, for the drainage of water in Boothgarh, Hario Kalan and Majra Rahaun villages, the water and silt of the ponds of these villages will be drained by November 30, 2025 and the entire wall of the ponds will be lined and the water of these villages will be treated through the Seechewal model by installing a project and the treated water will be supplied to the fields by installing solar motors. Minister Saund also announced a grant of Rs. 5 lakh from his discretionary quota for the development works of village Hario Kalan.
On this occasion, Coordinator of Nasha Mukti Morcha Punjab from Khanna constituency Parampreet Singh, Chairman Market Committee Khanna Jagtar Singh Gill Ratanheri, Block President Rural of Aam Aadmi Party Mr. Avtar Singh, OSD Karun Arora and a large number of people were present.
