Not only farmers but also people related to different professions are expressing their protest through dharnas. As far as the farmers are concerned, these are the same farmers who, with their hard work, had brought first the Green Revolution and then the White Revolution in India. These are the same food providers who, in the past, removed hunger from the country and replenished the country’s food reserves, but the rulers of the time did not do justice to the farmers, due to which the farmers were forced to adopt the path of struggle.
They say that the laborer should be paid before his sweat dries, but after the sweat of the farmers dries, now the blood has also dried up, despite this, the crops raised like their sons are not being given a fair price. The demands of the farmers are not such that it is not possible for the government of the time to fulfill them, but the central government can easily fulfill the demands of the farmers, but the central government should be sincere in this regard. It seems that there is some gap between the policies and intentions of the government. Recently, the Supreme Court had given the Punjab government three days’ respite in the case of farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who is on a fast to death at the Khanauri border. In fact, the Supreme Court should directly issue instructions to the Central Government and the Punjab Government should ask the Central Government for help because the farmers’ fight is with the Central Government and not with the Punjab Government. However, Dallewal has said that I am ready to seek medical help if the Central Government accepts the proposal to talk to them. This week began with the Punjab Bandh, which was called for by the farmers as a protest. And there is no doubt that the people also responded in favor of the farmers, but many questions are also being raised regarding this issue. As it is commonly said, there is no unity among the farmer organizations. How can two organizations get their demands accepted from the Center. But on the other hand, if we think about it, the mutual rivalry of the organizations and the hunger for Chaudhary is proving to be beneficial for the Central Government.
The way the Supreme Court is now concerned about the health of Dallewal, if the life of every farmer really matters, then why has the situation come to this? It is a matter of great sorrow that only after the intervention of the Supreme Court, some representatives of the Punjab and Central Governments have reached Dallewal. These farmers sitting on the borders are forced. Due to reasons like debt burden, rising costs of farming and insufficient support for crop diversification, they are sitting at home and barren to solve the crisis that is looming over agriculture. Narendra Modi had once said that farmers are just a phone call away from me, they can talk to me whenever they want, although this may not be possible. According to the party tradition, there was only a show but no way seems to be opening up for constructive dialogue. If the matter is to be put aside, the Centre will have to give up its stubbornness and invite the farmer leaders for talks and present the proposals that the government says it has prepared for the farmers to the farmer leaders. The Central Government will have to give up its stubbornness because it is the duty of the governments to take the initiative to solve the farmers and agricultural crisis. Although some intellectuals talk that we will grow wheat on the roofs. In reality, this is not the case. Agriculture is the lifeline of human society. If agriculture is neglected, the country’s food security may be in danger. Many ministers of the Centre have also been heard saying that they no longer need Punjab’s food grains, but this is their delusion. Without Punjab, the Centre’s food grains cannot remain lush.
